48" Antique Porcelain Enamel British Railroad Train Bridge Crossing Sign UK 1910

You're looking at a remarkable British-made porcelain enamel railroad sign that dates to the early part of the 20th century. I haven't had a lot of experience with early British porcelain signs but this one is a monster - VERY heavy and solid. I found this sign on the property of an older "collector", screwed to a fence behind some old industrial shelving. It had been there for 30-40 years and this collector had bought it in the UK from a dealer in the 1960s/ 70s.
The only comparable sign I could find is in The Museum of Making in Derby, UK. This item shows wear commensurate with age including large chips, dings, marks etc; which all add to the character and authenticity of the piece. There are serious bites to the bottom of the sign but this older wear is part of the piece's history. Just a wonderful piece for the transportation or train collector.
